Bulls, Tigers claim vital wins in Rugby League

Bulls RLFC recorded the second-biggest win of the ongoing Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) Men’s 13s Championship, defeating UG Titans 76–0 in their week six clash at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium last Sunday.

Bulls wasted no time in asserting their dominance with Desmond Geotrah crossing the line just two minutes into the game, followed by a barrage of tries from Martin Buabeng, Bright Bawah, Kwabena Kyei Boafo, Kevin Boadu, and another from Geotrah, with Leslie Boadu scoring four accurate conversions, to bring the halftime score to 34–0.

Geotrah added four more tries in the second half to take his personal tally to six for the match.

Further tries from Sackey, Boafo, and Bawah capped off the performance, while Leslie Boadu slotted home six additional conversions.

Bulls climb to second on the log with 10 points, two less than leaders Skolars RLFC who are on 12 points while UG Titans are still in search of their first win of the season.

In the day’s other game, Nungua Tigers defeated Accra Panthers 28-18 in a fierce game tagged the “battle of the cats.”

It was the Tigers who came out strong, with Kofi Montchon starting the win with an early penalty goal before following up with a try and a successful conversion.

Gideon Klugey added another try, and although Montchon missed the extras, Tigers were off to a flying start.

Panthers fought back through a penalty from Adams Masuur and a try by Francis Lawson, but missed opportunities left them trailing. Klugey crossed again before halftime, but a late try from Masuur, converted by Daryl Amoatey, gave Panthers an 18–12 lead at the break.

The second half saw Klugey completing his hat-trick, and William Sarkodie added another try to stretch the lead.

Though conversions were mixed, Tigers kept the momentum and not even a late onslaught by Godwin Asamoah, with another Amoatey conversion, was enough to deny Tigers their win.

Nungua Tigers now sit third with six points while Accra Panthers remain fifth on three points.

The final game of the first round takes place this weekend with leaders Skolars coming up against second place, Bulls, Dragons take on Tigers while Panthers face UG Titans.

After this weekend round of games, the league will take a two-week break and resumes on July 27.
