Eight players have withdrawn from the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to various reasons.
They include, Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, Jonas Adjetey, Tariq Lamptey, Jerome Opoku, Alexander Djiku, Ibrahim Osman and Joseph Painstil.
A statement from the FA, yesterday gave reasons for their withdrawal.
According to the statement, Inaki Williams pulled out as a result of a hamstring injury he picked up on November 7 and has since not been able to train.
Tariq Lamptey has a calf discomfort that got aggravated last week and is currently undergoing rehabilitation with his club while Jonas Adjetey was reported to be on his way to full recovery but suffered a setback in their last League game on Saturday.
Jerome Opoku, according to the statement, is enduring a chronic back pain which got worse during a Super Lig game against Besiktas on Sunday. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation with his club.
For Antoine Semenyo, it is a case of an injury of the patella tendon due to overload of games which his club’s medical team thought it wise to use the break to refer him to a tendon specialist to prevent worsening of the injury.
The statement said Alexander Djiku aggravated an existing hamstring that got him substituted in their last game on Sunday with Ibrahim Osman reported to have picked up a hamstring injury in his last outing for his club.
Joseph Painstil gave personal reasons to absent himself from the qualifiers.
They would be replaced by Osman Bukari (Austin FC), Ransford Yeboah Koningsdorffer (Hamburger SV), Forson Amankwah (Norwich City), Terry Yegbe (IF Elfsborg), Ebenezer Annan (OFK Beograd) and Kingsley Schindler (Samsunspor).
