Ghana edge Namibia for WAFCON ticket
Ghana have qualified for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) despite losing 1-0 to Namibia in the second leg of the final round qualifier in Pretoria, South Africa.
The Black Queens qualified on a 3-2 aggregate score after winning 3-1 in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.
Namibia scored the game’s only goal in the 15th minute through Nanamus Lydiana but that was not enough to see them through as Ghana picked the slot for next year’s tournament in Morocco.
Ghana becomes the fourth country to secure qualification to the continents flagship female competition, joining host, Morocco, South Africa, and Algeria.
The defeat is the first under Coach Nora Häuptle who took charge in February this year.
Nora has succeeded in qualifying for the WAFCON for the first time since 2018. –GFA
