Househelp granted GH¢50, 000 bail for allegedly pouring acid on boy

 The Bekwai Cir­cuit Court grant­ed GH¢50, 000 bail to a 26-year-old househelp, for allegedly pouring acid on a boy.

Accused, Ernest Agyei, has denied causing harm to Benja­min Asante, Senior High School graduate of Yamfo Anglican Secondary School, near Sunyani, in the Bono Region.

Agyei, who has been ordered to produce two sureties, would reappear before court on Decem­ber 17.

Police Chief Inspector   Christian Amartey, told the court, presided by Mr Isaac Apeatu, that Asante, the victim, was the complainant.

The prosecution said the victim was resident of Trede and accused, a house help, resident at Pakyi No 2.

Prosecution said on Decem­ber 22, last year, complainant’s brother, Francis Agyei, invited the complainant to assist him in cleaning tiles with acid.

Agyei, who is the house help, joined in the cleaning together with Godfred Kwadwo Tawiah, a friend to accused, Chief Insp Amartey said.

The prosecution revealed that in the course of the clean­ing, accused and Tawiah had an argument.

The court heard that when accused reported the case to the complainant, he (complainant) told Agyei that he did not want to interfere in the matter between him and Tawiah.

Chief Insp Amartey disclosed that Agyei became offended and rained insults at Asante, resulting in exchange of words between them.

The prosecution said in the process, Agyei poured a quan­tity of acid from a container and spread it on Asante.

Chief Insp Amartey said As­ante was rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and was admit­ted for three months.

The court heard that on June 20, 2022, a complaint was made to police, leading to the arrest of Agyei.

The prosecution said af­ter investigation, Agyei was charged and put before Court. —GNA
