Lands Minister donates GH20,000 to Appiatse Support Fund

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor,  yesterday donated GHC20, 000 to the Appiatse Support Fund to compliment the government’s efforts to rebuild the community.

Presenting the cheque in Accra, he said, the donation would further assist in the provision of relief efforts for affected persons.

Describing it as a “widow’s mite,” the Minister said it was the collective responsibility of all Ghanaians to “show compassion and help to reconstruct the fallen community.”

He commended donors who had so far redeemed their pledge to support the Fund, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as well as other individuals and organistions.

In line with the donation slogan “Obiaa ntua bi”, to wit ‘everyone should contribute’,  he called on Ghanaians, both home and abroad to support the rebuilding efforts.

Mr Jinapor further commended the members of the Appiatse Support Fund Committee, chaired by Rev Dr Joyce Aryee, for leading the campaign and selling the message of voluntary contributions to the public.

Dr Aryee, on her part, lauded the Minister for his exemplary leadership and called on other Ministers and government appointees to follow his steps.

She assured that the Committee was working diligently to ensure the collection and disbursement of the funds was done transparently to avoid cynicism and diabolic statements that could mar the process.

She urged the media to work in partnership with the Committee in voicing out the need for more donations, to as a matter of urgency, help to rebuild the model community.

In a related development, the Chinese Embassy in Ghana has also donated GHC50,000 to the fund in support of the reconstruction of Appiatse.

Thus, it is the first Embassy or High Commission in the country to contribute towards the fund.
