Man jailed 7 years for defiling 10-year-old girl
A block layer, David Kobla Dzata, who defiled his co-tenant’s 10-year-old daughter, at Mamprobi, Accra, was on Thursday sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by an Accra circuit court.
Dzata, 43, who pleaded guilty before the court presided by Mrs Rita Abrokwah Doko, asked for forgiveness.
The court noted that he was a first-time offender and not known to the law, and handed down the jail term.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the court that the complainant is a driver residing at Mamprobi with his 10-year-old daughter, who is the victim.
The prosecution said Dzata, is a co-tenant of the complainant, who send the victim on errands.
Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said last year, Dzata lured the victim into his room and had sex with her, and warned the girl not to tell anyone about her ordeal else he would kill her.
The court heard that on April 16, this year, the victim went to school and was asked by her tutor to write an essay on the subject, ‘The secret in my life.’
Prosecution said the victim narrated the ordeal she had gone through in the hands of the convict.
Chief Insp Atimbire said the school secretary reported the case to victim’s parents, who also reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU), at Dansoman.
He said Dzata was arrested and the police issued the victim with a medical report form to seek medical care at any government hospital. – GNA
