Nana Fitz: Set independent body to audit FA
Veteran
football administrator, Nana Fitz has called on the government to set up an
independent body to audit the finances of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The Kurt Okraku led administration last week revealed
that they inherited Gh¢11 million debt.
The details of the debts were contained in a
document titled “GFA Legacy Debts” which was presented to club administrators
during a recent Executive Council meeting.
in the said document, the FA captured a debt of
$180,000 owed to former Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah as outstanding salaries
and bonuses.
But the outspoken administrator argued that since
government was responsible for the payment of Black Stars coaches’ salaries, it
makes no sense for it to be captured in the FA’s Legacy Debts.
He told Happy FM that the FA’s legacy debt is completely fraud and queried why
the FA was now telling stakeholders about the debt.
“Kurt Okraku was part of the past
administration and an Executive Committee member so why is he now telling us
this? Are they hiding something from us?
“I am calling on the government to set up
an independent body to audit the accounts of the GFA because government is in
charge of paying Black Stars coaches. We must know why the FA captured $180,000
as a debt they must pay to Kwesi Appiah?
“It does not sound right to me. The FA
needs to come clean because I don’t believe what they are telling the
public,” he added.
