Police Ladies to bounce back against Sam Nelly

Head Coach of Police Ladies, Ghana’s representative in the ongoing WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Cote d’Ivoire, Yussif Basigi, believes his side will pull through the group stages into the next round after their opening-day defeat to Nigerian champions, Bayelsa Queens.
The Ghanaian champions had a shaky start to their maiden campaign on Sunday, losing 2-1 to Bayelsa Queens in their Group B opening game at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.
The Nigerian champions opened the scoring in the 12th minute mark, through Shakirat Moshood, before substitute Emem Peace Essien added the second on 62 minutes, with captain Mary Berko pulling one back in the 67th minute.
Coach Basigi, who expressed shock after the game, said all is not lost for his side as they would make amends in the remaining games to qualify to the next round.
“Yes, the players were really down after the defeat. They did not take the defeat lightly at all; some could not sleep, and we had to work on them to put their minds at ease. This tells you the effect of the defeat,” he noted.
According to him, Sunday’s defeat is one in all and are yet to come to terms with, but they would have to shake it off and look ahead to the rest of the games.
“The technical team is working on the playing body, and we will bounce back in our next game against Sam Nelly tomorrow.”
Sam Nelly will come into the game three points richer, having defeated Togolese side, Association Sportive de La Kozah, (ASKO) 1-0 in the other fixture.
“We have seen how they play. They will be physical, and we will need to match up that energy to beat them. We are up for it.”
