Tennis: Quaye, Brew excel at Accra City Open
Jonathan Quaye put up a spirited performance to beat Andrews Adu-Appiah to emerge winner of the semi-professional event of the Accra City Tennis Open championship which ended at the Accra Lawn Tennis Club, near Ridge in Accra on Saturday.
Quaye overcame a first set scare to win 3-6, 6-3 10-3 to emerge victorious in the most thrilling final of the competition.
George Heckson won the Men’s 35-44 age category final after defeating Edet Pius 6-3,6-0 in another competitive final.
Both clashed in the final after recording semi final victories over Ismaila Lamptey (6-1,6-2) and Nana Sam Awortwi (7-6(3),6-3), respectively.
In the Men’s 45-54 age division, Jesse Debordes lost to Daniel Appiah 6-4,6-3 having both defeated Michael Sarfo (6-3,6-3) and Massimalino (6-3,6-0) in their semi final clashes.
Kobby Brew won the Men’s 55-64 category with a win over Henry Nortey with an authoritative 6-2,6-1 victory.
They booked the final tickets after accounting for Larkai Lartey (6-4,6-1) and Edmund Botchway (7-6(7),5-2(R) in their semi final games.
