Volta FA decries hooliganism, urges completion of Youth Resource Centre
The Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) has condemned acts of hooliganism that disrupted the final match of Volta Division Two Middle League, while renewing calls for the urgent completion of the Ho Youth Resource Centre to enhance sports development in the region.
The keenly contested final, held on Sunday, June 15, 2025, saw West African Football Academy (WAFA) qualifying as a new entrant into Division One League by edging Kpetoe Diamond F.C with a 2-1 victory.
However, the event was marred by isolated incidents of crowd violence, prompting swift intervention by security personnel.
In a statement issued by the VRFA chaired by Mr Daniel Agbogah, the association expressed gratitude to the people of Volta Region for their strong turnout and support but condemned the unruly behaviour of a section of spectators.
“The behaviour exhibited by some individuals and fans was inexcusable and tarnished the spirit of the game,” the statement noted. “We condemn such actions and dissociate ourselves from any acts that bring the game of football into disrepute.”
The VRFA confirmed that investigations have begun in collaboration with security agencies and that the matter has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for appropriate action.
Addressing the infrastructural challenges, officials of the VRFA used the occasion to reiterate their long-standing appeal for the speedy completion of the Ho Youth Resource Centre, describing its delayed construction as a setback for talent development in the region.
“Our Middle League Final would have been more beautiful if this facility was fully functional. The people of Volta Region deserve better,” Mr Agbogah said.
The Association appealed to government agencies, particularly the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, Mr. Stephen Adom, the MCE for Ho Municipal other well-meaning Ghanaian to support fundraising efforts for the project.
“Kindly do your magic and raise funds for us to complete this project,” the statement urged.
The VRFA further called on the public to uphold discipline and fair play, reminding fans that hooliganism remains a major threat to sports growth.
“Say no to hooliganism because it is an enemy to sports development,” the association stressed.
The VRFA reaffirmed its commitment to working with all stakeholders to maintain safety, sportsmanship, and progress in regional football. –GNA
