39-year-old businessman remanded for alleged fraudulent land sale

The Adentan Circuit Court in Accra has remanded a 39-year-old businessman, in police custody over alleged fraudu­lent land sale.

The accused, Zakaria Nangnani Abdul Rahman, also known as Tanko,was charged on two count of fraudulent transaction of land and defrauding by false pretences.

He is to re-appear before the court presided over by Mrs Angela Attachieon May 13.

Chief Inspector Maxwell Lan­yo, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant is a health worker,

 in

living at beach road Nungua, Accra, whilst accused is a businessman and resident of Madina Zongo, also in Accra.

The prosecution said in November 2021, the complainant desired to buy land and got con­nected to accused through, man only known as Titus.

Chief Insp Lanyo said that upon a meeting, accused claimed he has eight plots of land at Dodowa, in the Greater Accra, and showed the complainant the site.

The court heard that the com­plainant,who became interested in the transaction, paid GH¢200,000 to cover the cost of the eight plots, to accused.

Chief Insp Lanyo said when the complainant started developing the land, he detected that docu­ments covering two out of the eight plots,costingGH¢45,000, were fake.

The prosecution said that in March, 2022, accused con­vinced the complainant that he had 10acres of land at Abu­ri-Dumpong, which he wanted to dispose of and collected GH¢245,000 from complainant and gave him a site plan, but he (accused) failed to lead complainant to the land.

Chief Insp Lanyo said on July 24, 2023, when a search was con­ducted on the site plan, it proved not to belong to accused, and a report was made to the police.

Chief Insp Lanyo said when accused was grabbed, he in his cau­tion statement admitted collecting the money from the complainant.

The court heard that accused­pleaded to the police to allow him replace the land in contention, and his request was granted.

Chief Insp Lanyo, said accused breached the trust and bolted.

The court heard that all efforts to get accused proved futile, but he was arrested by the police at Aburi and handed over to the police at New Ogbojo.
