Afayili Gets Modern CHPS Compound to Boost Healthcare Delivery

Healthcare delivery in the Mion District has received a major boost with the inauguration of a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound for the people of Afayili, a farming community in the area.

The facility, which includes residential quarters and a mechanised borehole, was inaugurated on Monday through a collaboration between the Member of Parliament for Mion Constituency, Alhaji Misbaw Adam Mahama, and the Mion District Assembly.

Valued at $99,736, the project was funded by the Embassy of Japan in Ghana under its donor grant programme, reflecting international partnership to improve health outcomes in underserved communities.

Speaking at a durbar of chiefs and residents, Alhaji Mahama described the project as a shared commitment to saving lives. He noted that it is the only CHPS facility in the Afayili Zone and will significantly improve access to healthcare for more than 5,000 residents in Afayili and nearby communities.

“This facility will address longstanding health challenges and ensure that healthcare is accessible to all in the area. It is not just for Afayili but for neighbouring communities as well,” he stated.

The MP stressed that healthcare remained a top priority for his office and pledged continued support for initiatives that bring essential services closer to the people. He also commended the Japan Embassy for its support in providing a modern, fully equipped facility.

The District Chief Executive for Mion, Mr Hamza Azindow Moabalyn, said the inauguration represented more than the opening of a building. He explained that the facility was equipped with modern delivery beds and other essential medical tools to ensure safe and dignified maternal care.

Mr Moabalyn assured both the Embassy and residents that the Assembly would maintain and protect the facility for the benefit of present and future generations.

The Head of Political Affairs at the Japan Embassy, Madam Haruko Yuze, praised the chiefs and people of Afayili for releasing land for the project and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting the Government of Ghana in delivering quality healthcare services nationwide. She also urged the community to take good care of the facility, assuring that Japan would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians.
