GBA rebuilds board, media committee

Following the resignation of Mr Abraham Kotei Neequaye as president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), the Authority’s board has announced the reconstitution of its media committee.

The new three-member media committee, announced on Friday by the Ag. President of the GBA, Mr Roger Barnor, has Mr Andrew Nortey as chairman.

He would be supported by Mr Prince Dornu Leiku and Mr Samuel Haywood Okine, both seasoned sports writers.

The team replaces the previous team chaired by Mr Amin Lamptey who worked as the GBA’s Public Relations Officer and a senior Ring Announcer. Mr John Manful also bowed out as Executive Member of the group.

According to Mr Barnor, three others including Dr Eric Tetteh, Lawyer Sam Laryea and Nii Gonti Adjor I, known in private life as Adama Addy, would also join the existing board after consultation with the executive and stakeholders.

The reconstituted board would, therefore, have Mr Barnor as the chair, Lord Acquaye (Treasurer), Shadrack Acquaye (Ag. Secretary), Carl Lokko, Alhaji Muritala Tofiki, Michael Neequaye, Nii Gonti Adjor I, Michael Tetteh, Lawyer Sam Laryea and Andrew Nortey.

Meanwhile, the board held its first meeting with stakeholders on Thursday at its Secretariat at the Bukom Boxing Arena with members discussing the way forward, following the exit of the former president.

In an open forum, stakeholders from the various grouping within the boxing body, including coaches, boxers, managers, promoters, ring officials and others called for peace and unity among members.

Members urged the new administration to be law abiding and find ways to address some of the teething challenges facing the organisation of the sport.

Responding, the Ag. President expressed gratitude to members for their cooperation and willingness to work and support leadership.

He hinted of plans to engage the National Sports Authority (NSA) to discuss modalities to hold an Extraordinary Congress and give the assurance that the GBA was capable of dealing with its internal issues.
