GIS junior officers win 2025 Comptroller-General End-of-Year

The junior officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) on Friday won the 2025 Comptroller-General’s End-of-Year football match after defeating their senior counterparts 4–3 on penalties at the McDan La Town Park.

This year’s event was on the theme: ‘Unity, Fitness, and Excellence through Sports.’ It had in attendance the Acting Comptroller-General of the Service, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu; former Black Stars winger, Laryea Kingson; President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey; and members of the GIS National Management Committee.

Andrew Gyimah opened the scoring for the defending champions, the senior officers, with a sublime volley that flew past goalkeeper Emmanuel Anteh. Back from the break, the juniors piled pressure and got the equaliser through an own goal by skipper Divine Mensah, to send the game to penalties.

The juniors’ quartet of Kwame Opoku Asare (aka Gari), Bright Roven Awagah, Essandoh Francis, and Jonathan Siaw Asante converted their kicks, with Felix Opoku Manu missing. The seniors’ trio of Divine Mensah, Okofo Gyan, and Henry Boakye scored their kicks, while Adam Saeed Hafiz and Francis Kofi Appau missed theirs.

The best coach award went to Clement Alipoe of the winners, best goalkeeper award went to Kwabena Bediako Acheampong, a senior officer, best player award went to Hafiz Saeed, a senior officer, with the best defender award going to junior officer, Kwame Opoku Asare.

In the female event, the Immigration Ladies football team beat a selected senior officers’ side 2–1.

The biggest side attraction on the day was a special armwrestling contest that saw Mr. Basintale Amadu defeat Mr. Osei Asibey, president of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF).

There were also other games, including penalty shootouts and female armwrestling.

Addressing officers, Mr. Basintale Amadu commended personnel for their commitment and dedication to duty.
