Hearts break Young Apostles’ home invincibility
Accra Hearts of Oak returned to winning ways with a well-deserved 2-1 away victory over Young Apostles in their Match day 6 Ghana Premier League (GPL) game at the Nana Abrefa Nketia VII Park in Wenchi.
Two second-half strikes from Emmanuel Amankwah and Hamza Issah were enough to dwarf substitute Samuel Prempeh’s goal, handing Young Apostles their first defeat at home in close to 40 games.
The game came alive in the second half AS Hearts piled the pressure.
It paid off three minutes into the half when attacking midfielder, Saani Mohammed, weaved his way through the defence of Young Apostles and passed to Emmanuel Amankwah to blast home past goalkeeper Edem Ofosu for the opener.
Head Coach of Young Apostles, Asare Bediako, brought on John Atta Jnr Affram and Francis Baffoe Addae for Kassim Sule and Moftaw Mohammed, respectively in search of an equaliser.
The host kept the goal area of the Phobians boiling with incessant pressure which paid off after another substitute Samuel Prempeh fired past skipper Asare.
Hamza Issah quickly restored the lead for the visitors with a beautiful goal to silence the home crowd.
Meanwhile, Accra Lions FC were pegged back at home while Heart of Lions were also held to a pulsating 0-0 draw as both teams dropped points at home in match day 6 of the Premier League on Saturday.
Ali Mohammed scored first for Accra Lions in the 58th minute before Stephen Amankona pulled parity as the two teams shared the points.
Lions are now without a win in two matches as they lie 12th on the table with seven points from six games, while Chelsea are fourth, amassing 10 points from the same number of matches played.
In Kpando, Vision FC frustrated Heart of Lions to a goalless draw at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The visitors impressed to pick a point as they continue their decent start under coach Nana Kweku Agyemang.
The two teams are separated by a point on the table with Vision FC placed eighth with nine points, while Heart of Lions occupy the ninth position with eight points.
