Kotoko end Karela winless streak
Kumasi Asante Kotoko commenced their 2024-25 with a 1-0 win against Karela United at the Naa Sheriga Sports Centre in Nareligu, yesterday.
Former Accra Great Olympics striker, Albert Amoah, fired the only goal that broke Kotoko’s winless streak with Karela stretching to seven games.
It was a very difficult encounter as both sides attempted to get the upperhand against the other.
But it took a great control and composure by Amoah in a packed goal area to unleash a terrific shot that zoomed into the Karela net for what ended as the only goal of the match.
With his strike hitting the crossbar before entering the net, Karela goalkeeper, Mohammed Ganiu, had no antidote to the rocket of a shot.
Karela upped their game in the second half, pushing Kotoko to their side of the field with several forays but failed to beat the impressive Guinean goalkeeper, Mohamed Camara.
At the Dun’s Park, Bibiani Gold Stars defeated Legon Cities 2-1 to start the season on a winning note.
Samuel Attah Kumi scored in the second minute only for Dennis Adomah to level for Legon Cities in the 47th minute.
The home side restored their lead with a goal from Gideon Anaba to snatch all three points.
