Lekié FF make history with maiden CAF WCL’s qualification
Lekié FF have become the first Cameroonian club to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League (WCL) after finishing top of the UNIFFAC qualifying tournament.
The Cameroonian side secured their place in the continental finals on Friday after holding DR Congo’s Football Academy Msichana to a 0-0 draw at the Omnisports Annex Stadium No. 1.
The point was enough to send Lekié FF through after they completed the tournament unbeaten, collecting five points from one victory and two draws.
It marked a historic achievement for Cameroonian women’s club football, with no team from the country having previously reached the final phase of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Lekié FF’s qualification also continues an impressive period for women’s football in Cameroon, coming shortly after the Indomitable Lionesses’ triumph at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Under coach Ndzana, Lekié FF showed consistency throughout the UNIFFAC qualifiers and entered their final match knowing that avoiding defeat would be enough to secure top spot.
They managed the decisive encounter with discipline, keeping Football Academy Msichana at bay to complete their campaign without a loss.
The achievement sparked celebrations at the Omnisports Annex Stadium, with players and officials marking a landmark moment in the club’s history.
Lekié FF’s continental qualification comes only days after they lifted the Cameroon Cup, adding another major achievement to a successful period for the Blue and Yellows.
Their attention will now turn to preparing for the CAF Women’s Champions League finals, where they will compete against some of the leading women’s clubs on the continent.
