Memory Lane PGA Championship set for Royal Golf Club in Kumasi

The Royal Golf Club in Kumasi will host the Memory Lane Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Championship, scheduled for October 16-18.

It will be the last tournament on the PGA Ghana calendar to select 24 players for this year ultimate PGA Championship at the Celebrity Golf Club, Sakumono.

It, therefore, makes it an important qualifier for professional golfers across the country yet to seal a place from the previous qualifiers played in other clubs.

Organisers of the event have said that a new title sponsor for the event would soon be announced, following the expiration of the Gold Fields contract as the title sponsor for the last 10 years, way back in 2023.

A PGA Ghana statement, however, noted that preparation was underway with PGA leadership in Accra and officials at the tournament venue in Kumasi to ensure the successful organisation of the Memory Lane Championship.

The Tournament Director of the PGA, Mr Eric Henaku, who is working in partnership with the other executives, including his predecessor, Rev. Akwasi Prempeh, noted in a statement yesterday that the golfers have shown massive interest in the Memory Lane Championship as the last qualifier for the main championship.

Commenting on the tournament from his United Kingdom base, the PGA’s Director of Operations, Alhaji Ahmed Padori, advised the new professionals to train well and not be scared.

He urged golfers to have a positive mindset to produce a score that corresponds with the effort they put in.

Alhaji Padori extended the PGA’s gratitude to Prof. Bernard Kofi Baiden and his executives at the Royal Golf Club for offering the association the opportunity to use their course and facilities.
