Rangers RL School, Queensland excel in Rising Stars Rugby League tourney
Rangers Rugby League School Team A and Queensland Team A of the Queensland International School emerged champions of the second edition of the Rising Stars Rugby League tournament, Accra Edition, held at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium over the weekend.
Hosted by the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG), the tournament featured five boys’ teams: Queensland Team A & B, Rangers Team A & B, and Futurestars Charity. Queensland Team A & B and Futurestars Charity also competed for honours in the girls’ division.
Debutants Rangers Team A, started on a winning note, securing an 8–2 victory over Queensland Team B, before wins against Future Leaders Boys (8–0) and Rangers Team B (3–1).
They capped it with a 5–3 win over Queensland Team A to claim the title.
Queensland Team A finished as runners-up, followed by Rangers Team B in third place, Queensland Team B in fourth, and Future Leaders Boys in fifth.
In the girls’ division, Queensland Team A successfully defended their title with a hard-fought 5–4 victory over Queensland Team B and a 3–1 win against Future Leaders.
The Vice President of the Greater Accra Rugby League, Mrs Paulina Buabeng, remarked after the tournament that the region was committed to creating opportunities for children and young people to engage with rugby league in a structured, safe, and supportive environment.
According to her, the Rising Stars tournament continues to provide an important platform for young people to participate in rugby league, develop their skills, build confidence, and enjoy the benefits of sport.
On his part, RLFG Technical Director, Mr Marshall Nortey, noted that with two successful editions now completed, the Rising Stars Rugby League tournament continues to establish itself as a key platform for identifying and nurturing the next generation of rugby league talent in Ghana.
