Accra Lions aim to bounce back from defeat to stun RTU

The Head Coach of Premier League side Accra Lions, Ibrahim Tanko believes his side is ready to correct the wrongs of their last two league defeats today when they come up against visiting Real Tamale United at the Accra Sports Stadium in a match day six fixture of the betPawa league.

Accra Lions face the prospect of a third straight defeat if they fall to the Pride of the North today, a situation coach Tanko is not considering at all.

The back-to-back defeats at the Accra Sports Stadium to Asante Kotoko and Great Olympics have seen them drop from the fourth spot to the 13th spot on the log.

In a chat with Times Sports, Coach Tanko alluded to the fact that his side failed to recover from the shock defeat to Kotoko.

That, he said, had a telling effect on their game against Olympics last Monday.

“Against Kotoko we made a bad mistake in the final moment of the game and seemed not to have recovered from it, going into the Olympics game.”

Lions have just one win in their four meetings.

A shock 2-1 defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium ruined the chances of Lions pushing for the title last season and the former Borussia Dortmund star believes revenge would be served today.

“We have placed the two defeats behind us, and working hard to redeem ourselves today, we cannot afford to lose again.”

He noted that games against RTU have not come easy for them in the past and for today’s fixture, he envisages will take the same path but expressed the belief that they would pick all three points.

“If you look at the crop of players we have this season age-wise, they are very young and inexperienced, but this is the Premier League and these are what we have to do the work with.”

“Going into today’s game, we have worked on our mental game for the past days and put ourselves in different scenarios to prepare for today, so the fans should expect positive results this time round, he started.
