Amewu affirmed NPP parliamentary candidate-elect for Hohoe
John Peter
Amewu, the Minister of Energy, has been affirmed as the New Patriotic Party’s
(NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Hohoe Constituency in the Volta Region.
He is making his third attempt to represent the
people of Hohoe in Parliament and was heralded for bringing development to the
area and acclaimed as a valuable asset whose work in government stood tall.
Mr Amewu, who
contested for Parliament in 2004 and 2008 has been described by some
constituents as a good candidate in a wrong party, secured 20.10 per cent and
22.37 per cent of votes cast in his first two attempts encouraged the people of
Hohoe to look upon the development he brings to the community and give him the
mandate to work for more.
He is celebrated for bringing streetlights to
the Hohoe Municipality and also donated vehicles to some state institutions,
paying school fees for constituents among others.
The
acclamation was done at a gathering of party delegates and supporters at an
extraordinary constituency conference in Hohoe.
Makafui Woanyah, the Volta Regional Chairman of
the NPP, called on party members, supporters, faithful, delegates, well wishers
and sympathisers to campaign to support and assist Mr Amewu in his bid.
“Mr Amewu should be in parliament to drive
more development to the Hohoe constituency, he is not new to any of us, we are
all witnesses to the good works he is doing in Hohoe and its environs, it will
only be prudent for us to send him to parliament to continue the good works,”
he stressed.
Benito Owusu-Bio, a Deputy Minister of Lands and
Natural Resources, who was full of praise for Mr Amewu for his excellent
performance whenever he is invited to answer questions in Parliament, observed
that Mr Amewu had all that it took to be in Parliament and perform better than
the incumbent Member of Parliament for Hohoe.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Hohoe
Constituency executives in their message of solidarity encouraged their
counterparts in the NPP to respect the peace being enjoyed in the constituency
and conduct their campaign in a manner that entrenched the peaceful coexistence
of the people of Hohoe and its environs since it is their stronghold.
