GFA, KGL Foundation launch 5th U-17 colts championship

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched the 2025 edition of the KGL Foundation Inter-regional U-17 Colts Championship.
The launch had in attendance the President of the GFA, Mr Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku; the CEO of the KGL Foundation, Mr Elliot Dadey; Executive Council Members of the GFA; and top officials of the KGL Foundation.
In his address, Mr Simeon-Okraku stated that the fifth edition of the championship serves as a platform for identifying and developing future stars, providing young talents with opportunities to shine and reach their full potential.
In addition to the old format, the new edition would have inter-district boys’ and girls’ games at the U-13, U-15, and U-17 levels, to be coordinated through the Regional Football Association and District Football Association.
The GFA, he noted, will also continue with the elite U-15 and U-17 boys’ and girls’ championships while providing direct support to colts regional champions, including prize money, trophies, jerseys, and footballs for all categories.
Mr Simeon-Okraku expressed appreciation to the leadership of the KGL Foundation for believing in the vision of the football association five years ago.
“Your commitment and investment towards the revival of the Ghanaian game is a bold statement of belief in Ghana’s future. The KGL Foundation has become a bedrock from which the GFA has been able to re-engineer colt’s football and elevate the standard of talent identification across the country,” he stated.
On his part, Mr Dadey said since 2021, they have invested in kits, equipment, training and a system to help turn football into a viable path for young boys to chase their dreams.
“My ambitions for this collaboration go beyond football; it is about investing in potential, shaping boys who grow into men that lead with discipline, drive, and dignity, because what they learn on the pitch, carry with them into the world,” he said.
“By investing in these young players and those who will follow, we are not just shaping athletes; we are laying the foundation for a stronger, more vibrant Ghana, one that will continue to grow for the generations to come,” he added.
