Liberty Pros pip Dreams FC
Liberty Professionals returned to winning ways on Sunday when they handed visiting Dreams FC a 1-0 defeat in their week six match of the Normalisation Committee Special League match played at the Carl Reindorf Park.
Skipper Simon Zibo’s 30th minute strike handed them the maximum points to push them to second position on the Southern sector log with 10 points.
Having faltered at the same venue a week ago, the home side made their intentions clear in the opening exchanges with incursions into the visitors’ area.
Elvis Kyei Baffuor and Michael Ampadu were at their rampaging best as they made Montari Kamahini and Issah Yakubu worked themselves out but Baffuor was poor in front of goal.
Zibo, who was named the Man-of-the-Match, remained a dominant figure in the centre of the field, leaving the Dreams FC midfielders chasing his shadow, however the hosts of chances created went without any good connection.
He finally found the back of the net on the half hour mark when he connected from a goalmouth scramble.
Dreams FC accepted the challenge and pushed forward as veteran Eric Gawu and his other attackers turned on the style to threaten the Liberty goal area in search of an equaliser.
With Dreams in control, Liberty resorted to a defensive posture and catching the visitors on the break, a situation partly blamed on the loss of Kyei Baffuor to injury on the 42nd minute mark.
The visitors kept probing for the equaliser and forced the host to defend several set pieces.
On the 79th minute, Gawu turned provider after finding some space on the right and laid a pass to Michael Amoh but that effort was thwarted by the onrushing Liberty goalie.
The defeat leaves Dreams FC at the sixth position on five points whiles Liberty kept their dream of making it to the next round alive with the win.
