NPP begins vetting of 47 aspirants
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) yesterday began vetting of the 47 aspirants seeking to contest various positions in the party after the successful close of nominations for the 2026 National Officers Elections.
The four-day exercise, being conducted by the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), is expected to end on Thursday, September 3, 2026 after candidates for the various national executive positions appeared before the Vetting Committee.
A statement issued by the Chairman of the committee, Frederick Opare-Ansah, noted that the nomination process officially ended at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, with 47 aspirants submitting their completed nomination forms to qualify for the vetting stage.
According to the statement, 50 people had earlier picked nomination forms to contest the various national officer positions, but only 47 completed the filing process before the deadline.
It said three aspirants did not file their nomination forms and, therefore, did not qualify to proceed to the next stage of the election.
The committee said Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, who had intended to contest the National Chairperson position, formally withdrew from the race before the close of nominations.
It explained that Mr Boasiako wrote to the party to express his appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the process and informed the committee of his decision to withdraw his candidature.
The committee acknowledged his communication and thanked him for formally notifying them of his decision.
The statement also revealed that Mr Evans Kodom withdrew from the contest for the National Communications Director position.
According to the committee, Mr Kodom, accompanied Mr Dennis Miracles Aboagye to file his nomination, has announced in his presence that he had stepped out of the race.
The committee said Mr Aboagye consequently became the only aspirant contesting the National Communications Director position and would proceed to the vetting stage as a potentially unopposed candidate, subject to successfully completing the vetting process and meeting all other requirements.
It further stated that Ms Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada, who had sought to contest the National Women Organiser position, did not submit her completed nomination forms before the close of nominations and, therefore, did not qualify for vetting.
The committee said aspirants for the positions of National Chairperson, General Secretary and National Treasurer were scheduled to appear before the Vetting Committee on the first day of the exercise.
The vetting began yesterday with candidates contesting for the National Vice Chairperson position while aspirants for the National Organiser and National Youth Organiser positions is expected to appear before the committee today.
According to the schedule, candidates contesting for National Communications Director, National Nasara Organiser and National Women Organiser would be vetted on Thursday, bringing the exercise to a close.
Moreover, the committee said details of the date, time and venue for each aspirant’s appearance had been communicated directly to them through their official channels and urged all candidates to remain available and comply promptly with any request from the Vetting Committee.
It expressed appreciation to the aspirants, their representatives, members of the secretariat, media and officials who supported the nomination and filing process.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a fair, transparent and credible election in accordance with the party’s constitution and the rules governing the elections.
