Saboba EP SHS student dies in school fire outbreak
Eighteen-YEAR old first year student of Saboba EP Senior High School in the Northern Region, Kofi Binidam Theresa, on Wednesday died in fire outbreak at the school girls’ dormitory.
Theresah’s body was reportedly burnt beyond recognition when it was recovered from the fire.
The Northern Regional Public Relation Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Assistant Divisional Officer ADOII, Hudu Baba, confirmed this to The Ghanaian Times here in Tamale.
He said their station at Saboba received a call on Wednesday evening about the fire outbreak at the Saboba EP Senior School from Npoyil Saili, a native of Saboba.
According to him, they quickly dispatched their men to the school and upon arrival they found out that the girls dormitory had completely been engulfed in fire.
He stated that their men did their checks around the dormitory and discovered that a student by the name Kofi Binidam Theresa was sick and had been left in the dormitory which had been locked.
The PRO stated that the crew quickly intensified efforts towards rescuing the trapped girl while efforts were made to douse the fire with buckets of water with the support of the students.
According to him, before they could reach out to her, the fire had burnt her to death.
He stated that their rescue team was able to salvage one out of the 3 rooms in the dormitory.
According to him, the students said they forgot the sick student in the dormitory till when they saw the intensity of the fire, and they remembered that Theresa was in the dormitory
He said books, uniforms, mattresses, bags, trunks and other belongings of the students were all burnt to ashes by the fire.
Theresa’s body has since been deposited at the Saboba Hospital for autopsy.
