Techiman Metro opens intercircuit sports festival for school children
The Techiman Metropolitan Sports Federation has opened the 2026 intercircuit sports festival, with a call on participating schools to be disciplined and guard against acts of lawlessness.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) sports on the sidelines of the opening session of the festival, Mr Isaac Twene, Techiman Metropolitan Sports Education Coordinator, said the winners would represent the metropolis in the regional sports festival.
Mr Twene said the festival would not tolerate lawless behaviours, saying that sport development remained a key component in academic and extra-curricular programmes that opened the mind and built the physical development of school children.
He said a sense of discipline was required not only to make the event a success but also to harness and build on the sporting talents of the children.
Reverend Isaac Amankwah, the Techiman Metropolitan Director of Education, presented some sports materials, comprising running vests, footballs, and jerseys to the participating circuits.
He lauded the festival, saying it would greatly create an opportunity for the school children to showcase their potential in sports.
Rev. Amankwah urged the schools participating in athletics to take proper care of the materials and commended the organisers, urging them to work hard to revive sporting activities in the area.
In all, about 14 circuits are participating in the festival, which also featured relay Barton, 4×4 metres, 5,000 metres, 100 metres, and 1,500 metres for both boys and girls.
