Gomoa Tarkwa chief rallies residents for development
The Paramount Chief of Gomoa Tarkwa, Daasebre Atta Kwakwa Egyir Opusu VII, has called for renewed commitment to the development of the area, urging residents to unite and support initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.
He said the future of Gomoa Tarkwa depended on the collective efforts of traditional authorities, government, professionals, businesses and the people.
Daasebre Atta Kwakwa Egyir Opusu VII made the call at a grand durbar held at the Methodist School Park last Saturday to climax the 2026 Gomoa Tarkwa Ahobaa Kese Festival and mark the second anniversary of his enstoolment.
The celebration, on the theme: ‘Honouring Our Heritage, Building Our Future: A Call to Action for Gomoa Tarkwa,’ brought together chiefs, government officials, security personnel, religious leaders, professionals and residents from across the Central Region.
Among the dignitaries were the Member of Parliament for Gomoa West and Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr Richard Gyan Mensah; the District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, Mr Mohammed Kassim; broadcast journalist, Captain Smart; members of the Police Management Board (POMAB); and representatives of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service.
In his address, the paramount chief said the festival was not only a celebration of culture and tradition but also an opportunity to reflect on the future of the community.
He urged the people to preserve their heritage while working together to address the development needs of the area.
Daasebre Atta Kwakwa Egyir Opusu VII identified human resource as a key asset for the development of Gomoa Tarkwa and encouraged residents to apply their skills and knowledge to advance the community.
He also underscored the need for prudent management of both community and national resources, saying traditional authorities and government must work together to ensure that resources meant for development were used for their intended purposes.
The festival also served as a platform to celebrate the history and cultural identity of the people, while renewing their commitment to preserving traditions and pursuing development.
Activities leading to the durbar included a clean-up exercise and a candlelight procession as part of the week-long celebration.
Chairing the event, Nana Kwasi Essel Okyeahene, founder of Onuaa Francis School and Young Executive Schools in Kasoa, encouraged the people to remain determined despite challenges.
He shared his personal journey, including his education in South Africa on scholarship, and urged residents to remain hopeful and believe in their ability to overcome difficulties.
The durbar also attracted senior security personnel, including retired Commissioner of Police, Mr Pap Nakote, and other members of the Police Management Board.
Marking his second anniversary on the stool, Daasebre Atta Kwakwa Egyir Opusu VII emphasised that the occasion should strengthen unity among the people and inspire practical action towards development.
He called for increased attention to education, sanitation, youth development and security as key areas for improving living conditions.
