Let’s inspire Black Stars to glory – Alban Bagbin

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has urged stakeholders in the Ghanaian football fraternity to right the wrongs of the Black Stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil as the team prepares to make its fourth appearance in the same competition in Qatar next month.

According to the Speaker, the global showpiece has the potential to reposition Ghana on the world football map.
In his welcome address to MPs on Tuesday, Mr. Bagbin said Ghanaians must inspire the team to glory.

“This is the time to right the wrongs of the World Cup 2014 edition in Brazil. One which led to our early exit, and brought so much shame and dishonour to Ghana football.

“We have an opportunity to reposition our country on the world football map again,” he stated.

Preparations for the mundial, the Speaker said has started “long ago and we need to be focused and ensure that the senior national football team gives a good account of itself in Qatar.”

As leaders, the Speaker said it was their duty to inspire and motivate the players, technical team and the supporters to go higher at next month’s showpiece than the country has ever had in its three previous appearances.

Despite the poor state of the economy, the Speaker said the country should leave no stone unturned in resourcing and financing the team to success.

“The benefits of this venture to the country and people are immeasurable and we should not toil with the contest and the opportunity.

“I want to assure the Black Stars that his parliament is solidly behind them and they should confidently go for the gold, go for the cup and come home with glory.”
