Man arrested over unlawful weapons possession

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested a man for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition at Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region.
The suspect, Abdul Rauf Salami, a native of Adoagyiri Zongo, was arrested on May 23, 2025, at about 09:30 hours during intensified police operations targeting all entry and exit points of Adoagyiri, a press release copied to the Ghana News Agency stated.
“The operations were part of a broader response to the recent disturbances in the township,” it noted.
“Exhibits retrieved from the suspect included two pump-action guns with 64 rounds of AA ammunition, a cutlass, a knife and an ammunition vest,” it said.
Salami is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned to face justice.
“We would like to assure the public that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of the Adoagyiri Township,” the release said.
“We, therefore, urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police,” it added.
