New GOC executives call on Sports and Recreation Minister

 The newly elected executive of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has called call on Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation, to formally introduce themselves.

Led by the new GOC Presi­dent, Mr Richard Kofi Akpokavie, the elected executives sought the blessing of the sector minister as they seek to take Ghana sports to greater heights.

Mr Adams welcomed the del­egation and assured them of his support, noting that sports was a big business which must not be left to the government alone.

He expressed his excitement about the peaceful organisation of their elective congress and com­mended them for maintaining the image of the committee, adding that the adoption of the Com­monwealth Games Association as part of their mandate is a feather in their cap.

The Sports and Recreation Min­ister also emphasised the need for more women to play active roles in the GOC and urged women not to shy away from stepping forward to be elected as members of the GOC.

Mr Adams also advised the members to uphold the virtue of teamwork, saying, “We will suc­ceed only when we work together.

Mr Akpokavie, the President of the GOC, in his remarks expressed his appreciation to the Minister for taking time off his busy sched­ule to be part of their elective congress.

He added that it was appropri­ate to pay homage to the Minister before they set out on their duties.

Mr Akpokavie further pledged the support of the entire member­ship of the GOC to the success of the sporting fraternity.

In attendance were Alhaji Kamal Sulley, Board Member, Nana Mankata II, Board Member, Edwin Amankwah, Board Mem­ber, Rafatu Inusah, Board Member, Samuel Ayeh, Board Member.

Others included, Nii Lante Bannerman, Deputy Treasurer, Mawuko Afadzinu, 1st Vice, Delphina Quaye, Board Member, Mohammed Muniru Kassim, General Secretary, Yeboah Evans, Treasurer, George Lamptey, Board Member and Ernest Danso 3rd Vice President. -GNA
