St Mary Intl School holds football gala
St Mary International School in the Ashaiman municipality of the Greater Accra Region recently held its annual intra-football competition that had the ‘Red Section’ male team emerged winner.
The two-day event also witnessed the ‘Green Section’ female team winning the cup in their category.
Both final matches were won through marathon penalty shootouts, after the male final ended in a two-all draw between the red and blue sections, while the female one was goalless between green and yellow sections.
The male final game was a delight to watch, with both teams making early incursions, with the two teams, intermittently seizing the midfield but missing begging chances.
However, it was the red section that had the first laugh in the 44th minute, when their captain, after a loving cross from Samuel Nkansah had Abraham Sebie heading in from close range.
The reds scored their second goal in the 63rd minute when Chrisford Okyere’s long drive found the top corner of the net.
Several minutes later, the green section reduced the deficit through a low grounder by Abass Rashid.
Thereafter, playmaker and Man-of-the-Match, Clins Mensah got the equaliser through a clinical 25-yarder volley.
The female final was also a nice match to watch, however, if there was anything that would disappoint the fans, it was the numerous chances that were missed by both teams including the penalty shootouts.
