Asante climbs up in latest World Karate rankings

Ghanaian karateka Edmund Amoako Asante has made a significant leap in the latest World Karate Federation (WKF) rankings, from 492nd to 76th position.

This impressive rise has come as a result of his skills and prowess in the male Kata category at both international and local competitions over the past five years.

According to a WKF release issued on Monday, 28th July, 2025, Asante’s dedication and hard work in the sport saw him amass a total of 300 points from competitions in the last five years.

With a win rate of 25 percent, he has successfully participated in four continental championships, including the UFAK juniors and seniors championships held in Morocco, Durban, Accra, and Abuja in the years 2020, 2022, 2024, and 2025, respectively.

Asante also featured the 2023 African Games held in Ghana last year.

These competitions provided Asante with valuable experience and exposure, enabling him to hone his skills and refine his technique in the sport.

Asante’s rise in the WKF rankings is a huge success for Ghanaian karate, highlighting the country’s growing presence in the global martial arts community under the current leadership of Mr Nathaniel Johnson, president of the Ghana Karate-Do Federation (GKF).

Speaking on this achievement, Asante stated that it was as a result of his tireless efforts and commitment to the excellence of Karate in Ghana.

“This feat for me is just the beginning; there is more to come. My target is to be among the first 50 in the world.”

“The feat is a win for Ghana Karate, and I applaud the support from the Federation; they have been of immense help to my career. This is the beginning of the good things to come.” He said.
