‘FA elections will be fair, transparent’

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary, Mr Prosper Harrison Addo, has given the assurance that the upcoming presidential, Executive Committee and Regional Football Associations (RFAs) elections would be organised free and fair.

The presidential and ExCo elections have been slated for September 27 in Tamale with the RFA’s scheduled for September 29.

On the said dates, the football family would elect new leadership for the association, the climax of which would be the two-horse race presidential contest between former GFA vice president, George Afriyie, and incumbent, Kurt Okraku.

There would also be positions to be vied for on the Executive Council, the Regional Football Association as well as the district level.

Speaking to the Times Sports, Mr Addo allayed fears over concerns that the elections was being organised to favour the incumbent, following claims of a deliberate delay in the release of the roadmap for the elections.

According to him, the Election Committee released the roadmap for the elections ahead of schedule and FIFA was aware of that.

Mr Addo explained that FIFA follows the activities of countries that have gone through the normalisation process and the case of Ghana was no exception.

“As an association that has gone through normalisation, FIFA has monitored our activities every step of the way so the GFA cannot do what it pleases.”

“Indeed, if the Elections Committee had violated any regulation, it would not take a candidate or someone out there to point it out; FIFA would point it out to the FA.”

Mr Addo assured all contestants for the various positions to be rest assured for a very transparent, free, fair and smooth election process.
