Hearts set for big Dreams FC test today

Accra Hearts of Oak kept their Premier League title ambitions alive over the weekend with a dramatic 1–0 victory away to struggling Hohoe United, a result that underlined their growing reputation for resilience and defensive discipline.

The Phobians have now accumulated 31 points from 18 matches to sit fifth on the league table. Their campaign has been built on a rock-solid backline, boasting the best defensive record in the league after conceding just seven goals.

However, goals have been harder to come by at the other end, with Hearts scoring only 12 so far — the lowest tally among all teams this season.

Despite that, Hearts of Oak head into today’s fixture in formidable home form. They have recorded three consecutive home wins without conceding a single goal and will be eager to extend that run when they welcome Dreams FC to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Historically, the Phobians have enjoyed the upper hand in this fixture, having dropped points at home to Dreams FC only once in league action since 2020.

Dreams FC, led by Coach Winfred Dormon, make the short journey in confident mood after a convincing 3–0 victory over an out-of-form Heart of Lions FC at the Tuba Astroturf last Sunday.

That result marked their third win in the last five league matches, despite suffering two defeats in that spell.

The Still Believe lads are among the league’s more potent attacking sides, though defensive frailties remain a concern, having conceded 20 goals in 18 matches.

Their recent win has propelled them to ninth on the table with 23 points. However, their away form tells a worrying story — just one point from eight road matches, with seven defeats, five goals scored and 13 conceded.

Tomorrow, Bibiani Gold Stars FC’s strong home form will be central to their ambitions as they welcome Asante Kotoko.

Vision FC will hope to continue with their new form when they welcome Medeama to the Nii Adjei Kraku II Park in Tema.

In other games, Karela United will remain at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium to host Samartex FC, while the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex host the clash between Nations FC and Aduana FC.

Bottom-placed Eleven Wonders will visit the Kpando Stadium as guests of eighth-placed Heart of Lions; Young Apostles would be at Wenchi Sports Stadium to play host to relegation-threatened Hohoe United, while Basake Holy Stars welcome Bechem United to the Ampain AAK II Sports Arena.
