Grandmaster Tennis Events applauds improved female participation in tennis

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Grand Master Tennis Event, Mr Peter Annan, has lauded the large number of female participants in the just ended sixth Accra City Doubles Open championship.

That, he said, was very encouraging as the tennis authorities in the country strive to encourage greater female participation in the sport.

He told The Times Sports yesterday that this year’s championship recorded the highest number of females and hoped that the trend continues.

Mr Annan said his agency was considering the introduction of an all-female championship in a bid to raise female champions to represent Ghana on the international scene.

Commenting on the success of the just ended doubles championship, he described it as very competitive.

He also attributed its success to the commitment and hard work shown by the players as well as the support it enjoyed from corporate bodies.

Consequently, he expressed gratitude to the sponsors whose contribution allowed for 10 days competitive tennis.

Among the supporters were the Volta River Authority, Buka Restaurant, Accra City Hotel, Kaminski Gold Coast City, Soul Food Restaurant, Diplomatic Ball, Central Hotel, Fine Water, Michael Fruit Juice, Madar, Voltic Mineral water.

Moreover, it also attracted support from individuals like Mr Ekow Hackmann, Prof. David Anthony Dove, Kwabena Danso and Chief Ajarico.

The Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr Gideon Hammond, was the guest of honour on the finals and trophy presentation day.
